A JFSP Fire Science Exchange Network
Bringing People Together & Sharing Knowledge in the Northern Rockies
Date: February 16, 2017
Presenter(s): Stephen Pyne
Description: A brief reconnaissance of the Great Plains and fire that will place its fire scene within the national narrative. From the onset of European contact, the grasslands were famous for their fires. They stimulated a debate about the relative roles of climate and humans. They prompted one of America's two national traditions of fire literature, inspired our primary school of fire art, contributed a significant source of fire science, and continue to engage with nature restoration in important ways. How should we understand its place today?
