This is the second Fire Weather Research Workshop at San Jose State University with the aim of providing the latest information and current state-of-knowledge on fire weather research to fire management agencies, scientists, students and other stakeholders. Following from our successful first workshop in 2019, this year we have extended the speaker list to our colleagues and partners across the world to provide an international perspective on current fire weather research. Because of the online format, we have split the workshop into two days with three 1-hour sessions each. The workshop sessions will cover: Fuels and fire danger, Remote sensing of the fire environment, Fire weather indices and case studies, Coupled fire-atmosphere modeling advances, and Smoke modeling and impacts. The last session will be a Panel Discussion: “Wildland Fire and Weather - What are research to operations needs to reduce risk and contribute to improved management and mitigation of the wildland fire effects” co-sponsored by the AMS Ad Hoc Committee on Wildfire Weather, Technology and Risk.
