In partnership with scientists and managers, we develop and host webinars to provide a forum for sharing information about specific topics or scientific resources in support of fire and fuels management.

We also maintain a broad Northern Rockies-relevant Recorded Media Database that contains webinars and presentations from multiple sources and can be searched by presenter, date, topic, and ecosystem.

In this presentation by C. Alina Cansler, Research Ecologist, University of Washington, was part of the 2016 Whitebark Pine Ecosystem Foundation Annual Science and Management Workshop - Successes and Challenges in Managing the Jewel in the Crown of the Continent that occurred September 16, 2016 in Whitefish, MT.

This presentation by Colin Maher, Ph.D. Candidate, Department of Ecosystem and Conservation Sciences University of Montana, was part of the 2016 Whitebark Pine Ecosystem Foundation Annual Science and Management Workshop - Successes and Challenges in Managing the Jewel in the Crown of the Continent that occurred September 16, 2016 in Whitefish,… read more about the webinar "The ecological effects of thinning treatments to restore whitebark pine "

This presentation by Mary Frances Mahalovich, Regional Geneticist, Northern, Rocky Mountain, Southwestern and Intermountain Regions, USFS, was part of the 2016 Whitebark Pine Ecosystem Foundation Annual Science and Management Workshop - Successes and Challenges in Managing the Jewel in the Crown of the Continent that occurred September 16, 2016… read more about the webinar "Geologic and genetic implications of restoring whitebark pine under climate change "

This presentation by Jen Asebrook, Botanist, Glacier NP, was part of the 2016 Whitebark Pine Ecosystem Foundation Annual Science and Management Workshop - Successes and Challenges in Managing the Jewel in the Crown of the Continent that occurred September 16, 2016 in Whitefish, MT.

This presentation by Regan Nelson, Crown Conservation Initiative Coordinator, was part of the 2016 Whitebark Pine Ecosystem Foundation Annual Science and Management Workshop - Successes and Challenges in Managing the Jewel in the Crown of the Continent that occurred September 16, 2016 in Whitefish, MT.

Following the 2005 School Fire that burned about 50,000 acres of forests and grasslands on the Umatilla National Forest, Washington, managers wanted to limit weed spread and soil erosion in severely burned areas. Various mulch treatments (wheat straw, wood strand, and hydromulch) were used to control erosion on steep slopes above the Tucannon… read more about the webinar "10 years of post-fire treatment monitoring - Learning about soil and vegetation recovery"

Wildland fuels may be the most important consideration in fire management, not just because they are important inputs for predicting fire behavior (i.e., how fast and intense a fire gets), but also because fuels are the only factor that can effectively be controlled by direct and indirect management manipulation.

Over the past several decades, increases in area burned in the western U.S. have caused considerable concern about forest resilience following large wildfires. This concern is especially pronounced in dry mixed-conifer forests, where the combined effects of 20th century land management and land use have altered species composition, fuel loads,… read more about the webinar "Resilience and regeneration after wildfire in dry mixed-conifer forests of the US Northern Rockies"

This webinar highlighted results from a study investigating the ability of wildfire to act as a fuel treatment. The study evaluated whether or not wildfires limited the occurrence, size, and severity of subsequent wildfires in four large wilderness complexes in Idaho, Montana, and New Mexico. The study focused on protected areas to minimize… read more about the webinar "The ability of wildfire to act as a fuel treatment"

This is the second webinar in a series of three, developed by LANDFIRE, the Northern Rockies and Southern Rockies Fire Science Networks, and the Joint Fire Science Program. The webinar series is designed to introduce LANDFIRE data and tools, examine an on-the-ground application project in the Rockies region, and look at ways to customize… read more about the webinar "LANDFIRE #2: Assessing needs - Grand Teton NP & Bridger-Teton NF risk assessment findings"
