In partnership with scientists and managers, we develop and host webinars to provide a forum for sharing information about specific topics or scientific resources in support of fire and fuels management.

We also maintain a broad Northern Rockies-relevant Recorded Media Database that contains webinars and presentations from multiple sources and can be searched by presenter, date, topic, and ecosystem.

This is Day 1 of a 3-day webinar series focused on firefighter health organized by several of the Joint Fire Science Program exchanges. It covers several recent studies specific to wildland firefighters on reproductive health, nutrition, sleep patterns, and smoke exposure.

Weather plays an integral role in fire management due to the direct and indirect effects it has on fire behavior. However, fire managers may not use all information available to them during the decision-making process, instead utilizing simplifying decision rules called heuristics, i.e. mental "… read more

High-severity fires create lasting effects on landscape vegetation mosaics. Recent increases in fire activity and severity highlight the need to understand the long-term effects of high-severity fire, including interactions with subsequent fires. This webinar presents results from a study that… read more

Climate warming and increasing frequency and severity of wildfires have the potential to undermine forest resilience to wildfires through changes in seed availability and post-fire climate. This webinar described results from a study in which researchers quantified the impacts of wildfires on… read more

The Northern Rockies Fire Science Network partnered with the Montana Department of Natural Resources and Conservation’s (DNRC) Forestry Division to share information about the development of a statewide wildfire risk assessment. The risk assessment will assist with planning and prioritizing work… read more

In this webinar, Dr. Robert Keane presents information on how to use the Photoload technique to sample wildland forest fuels.

Matt Jolly, Research Ecologist (USDA Forest Service Rocky Mountain Research Station) will present the structure and function of the current version of the US National Fire Danger Rating System, NFDRS2016. He will show how this system can be used to assess seasonal variations in fuel moisture and… read more

Chuck McHugh presents an overview of FlamMap 6.0 in this webinar from January 22, 2020.

Researchers presented results from a National Science Foundation-funded project studying management responses to Mountain Pine Beetle infestations in the western U.S. This research included case studies of national forests and surrounding communities that were heavily affected by impacts from… read more
