Fire Weather is unique among the support the National Weather Service (NWS) provides. It operates at the fusion of other natural factors beyond meteorology and the human factors can match intensity of any form of severe weather. Fire Season 2020 created intense workload on NWS Forecasters and Incident Meteorologists (IMETs), and brought the threat of devastating fire right into the lives of NWS employees and their families. Fire season 2020 can be broken into 5 phases which define the uniqueness of the season and represent the flexibility of the Fire Weather program and the IMETs who respond onsite to wildfires.
