In partnership with scientists and managers, we develop and host webinars to provide a forum for sharing information about specific topics or scientific resources in support of fire and fuels management.

We also maintain a broad Northern Rockies-relevant Recorded Media Database that contains webinars and presentations from multiple sources and can be searched by presenter, date, topic, and ecosystem.

The goal of this webinar was to take an in‑depth look at two of the most influential long‑term fire research efforts supported by the Joint Fire Science Program: the Fire and Fire Surrogate (FFS) Study and the Sagebrush Steppe Treatment Evaluation Project (SageSTEP). These landmark studies provide rare, decades‑long insights into how different… read more about the webinar "Fire and Fire Surrogate Studies and SageSTEP: The Benefits of Long-Term Fire Research"

Burn severity is key to understanding the environmental impacts of wildfires. The Western Fire & Forest Resilience Collaborative’s Co-Principal Investigator, Dr. Brian Harvey of the University of Washington, and his lab group are developing an atlas of multiple on-the-ground burn severity metrics across forests of the western United States… read more about the webinar "Creating a burn severity atlas across western US forests"

Abstract/Summary: WBP is well suited to regenerate following wildfires in subalpine forests; however, questions remain regarding how fire may influence recruitment across its elevational distribution — especially as that distribution is predicted to shift under warmer and dryer conditions. To investigate drivers of whitebark pine regeneration… read more about the webinar "Site conditions constrain the influence of fire on regeneration of whitebark pine"

An introduction to the 2025 Fire and Fuels Modeling Workshop, Tom DeMeo gives an introduction to monitoring, why we monitor, and suggestions for attendees going through the workshop.

Duncan Lutes talks about what FEAT-FIREMON Integrated (FFI) is, common uses and tools, and how to generate reports using the program.

Susan Prichard discusses landscape fire severity mapping and her research on measures of tree mortality on the Tripod Complex Fire, including impacts of pre-fire treatments on fire severity.

Heather gives an overview of estimating fire severity and composite burn index and then shows examples and answers questions.

This webinar (recorded May 22, 2025) discusses how Behave v7 differs from BehavePlus v6 by highlighting the Surface, Surface/Crown, Surface/Mortality, and Surface/Contain modules, and enhancements that will be included in the next few releases in 2025-2026. This webinar will be useful for both burn bosses and RX-300 cadres. Co-hosted by the… read more about the webinar "Behave7 for Prescribed Fire Planning"

This webinar (recorded May 20, 2025) covers how Behave v7 differs from BehavePlus v6 by highlighting the Surface and Surface/Crown modules, and enhancements that will be included in the next few releases in 2025-2026. This webinar will be most useful for fire analysts, S-390 cadres, and S-490 cadres. Co-hosted by the Northern Rockies Fire… read more about the webinar "Behave7 for Fire Analysts"

Learn about the connections between freshwater ecosystems (including beaver dam or beaver dam analog (BDAs)-created wetlands) and wildfire. Recorded on: April 15, 2025 Description: Given the increasing severity of wildfires and their associated impacts across the country, there is significant attention on the tools that are available to address… read more about the webinar "Pre- and Post-Fire Impacts of Beaver Dams and Beaver Dam Analogs"
