Ron Goode, Tribal chair of the North Fork Mono Tribe, explains the importance of fire in California ecosystems, and how tribal knowledge relating to cultural burns can be beneficial to the landscape. Currently, wildfires tear across the state of California in summer and fall because of poor land management policies that have suppressed fire for decades, leading to increased fuel availability.

Introducing responsible burns to the landscape will cleanse the land of invasive species and allow for native plants to regain territory allowing for more natural ecosystems and integration of sustainable development practices.
